Canada and especially Lake of the Woods is considered one of the special wonders of the world. It is an International lake we share with Minnesota and Manitoba.
Another interesting observation in the 50 years we have lived on the lake, is as the wealthiest folks on the lake age, and they start selling off their worldly properties. Their Lake of the Woods property is often the property they keep in the family. Some families have been on the lake for well over 100 years.
In 1970 the Smith's immigrated from Illinois and started to build a tourist camp from the virgin bush on the north east shore of beautiful Lake of the Woods.
At Smith Camps, we value connection. Whether it's a connection to wildlife and nature, or a connection to family and friends, we all enjoy the beauty and company we are surrounded by. As a family owned and operated camp, we have watched our own families and those of our returning guests grow over the years. Learning life skills and developing lifelong friendships have been made with and between guests from all over North America.
We offer more than just world-class fishing. There is a connection to Nature that is second none in such an easy to access location. On our 20 acres of private land we share with Whitetailed Deer,Black Bear,Timber Wolves, the occasional Moose, Fur-bearing animals from Weasel to the very rare Wolverine and all cousins in between. Bald Eagles,Osprey, many different Owls, Pelicans and waterfowl and birds to numerous to mention here.
Our cabins are traditional in the sense that they do not have phones, TV, or WiFi (all are available in the main lodge). Relish in screen-free time - fish, enjoy the lake, play cards, share meals, sit around the nightly camp fire (weather allowing), with neighbors - all the things we often find ourselves too busy to do on a regular basis. Cabin guests are welcome to join us for our Wednesday evening potluck fish fry on the beach, where many connections between guests are made.
By the end of your vacation, you'll have caught fish, met new people, made many memories, and been enchanted by beauty of Lake of the Woods and Northwestern Ontario.
